Originally by: Gunship It's far from over, but if you post is indirect talking about lack of offence from "The Coalition" vs "The Alliance" after the disaster in BoB's homeland (so to speak), we have not seen anthing on that scale yet. So perhaps ACT 1 is over? The big question imho is if the "The Coalition" has the resolve to try again or are they simply trying to hold on while MC is doing a fab. job in the north and BoB's well organized forces continue there none-stop attacks in the south?
Or is it simply that the 40+ capital ships lost hit an awful lot harder than any Coalition member is prepared to accept?
I think that gunship's questions get closest to the heart of the matter, but don't quite nail it.
The Coalition tried to do what had never been done before; they assaulted an important BoB POS. That's as real as it can get, folks. It's brave, its epic, and its what they have to do, again and again, to remove BoB from their own space.
They died horribly, and from what I can gather, it wasn't fair at all - it was a turkey shoot with the primary culprit being the servers. The system hard cap of 700, the inability to jump portal in the support fleet, the resulting inabilty to defend their capital ships, and the lag those capitals experienced as they died, all made one thing abundantly clear. The technology cannot handle the sort of load that is produced by this epic level of conflict.
So we see a lack of activity from the Coalition, but let's get one thing straight. They tried to fight and they found that the game can't handle the load. They may have some issues, they might all be transvestite homeless people for all I know, but if they thought that epic fights were possible, they would do it. They are not striking not because they're afraid, or don't have the resources, or have internal differences, but because they already tried it and found out that the game cannot handle it.
In a conflict of this scale, POS warfare is dead. What's a strategy that can give victory if you cannot destroy enemy POS's?
I would guess it will be old fashioned control of space through military dominance. You cannot ever take their stations or POS's because they can cyno in carriers with fuel to keep them online, but at some point perhaps their resolve will break and they'll ask if they can leave. Make the system useless to them, bubble it and keep your fleet there and have your roamers throughout the constellation, and after a month maybe they'll just give up. Maybe after they're worn down to nubs you can kill their POS's.
That's at least one possible strategy for BoB to pursue now that the momentum is shifting. But keep in mind that the momentum has shifted not because of defeat but because the main method of conquering space, POS warfare, doesn't work with lots of players. Delve might be littered with wrecks if it was a viable option for the Coalition.
